about the splints

The Splints are originally from the Washington DC area. Formed by guitarist and singer Lynn Dials in 2002. He wanted to start a punk rock band. He began writing songs and recording them in his home studio. He played with other musicians but had no luck finding permanent members. That is, until bass player/vocalist Nikki Cave came into the picture. With the same goals and musical direction in mind, to play in your face, punk infused rock n roll, a musical kinship began.

In 2005 the Splints relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. It is here that the band started to find success. Drummer issues have plagued the group since it began. In 2006 that changed, at least for about 6 months. They met local Memphian, Corey Suttin and began to practice.
The band had their first show on June 10 at the popular venue, Skatepark of Memphis .
Aside from technical glitches ( Lynn's amp head blowing, Nikki breaking a bass string 2 songs into the set) it was a pretty good 1st show. The Splints were from then on a full fledged gigging band and played a slew of shows .

In time the band was contacted by the owner of Lightning Rock Records , Clint Covey. He expressed interest in signing the Splints to his record label.

Unfortunately, tension began to form. And on Oct 24, the drummer decided to quit the band.
Leaving Lynn and Nikki no choice but to put signing to LRR and recording an album on hold.
Clint at Lightning Rock Records understood the bands' predicament though, and told them that he was excited to put out an album and to keep in touch.

Shortly after, Lynn and Nikki luckily hooked up with another drummer quite quickly thru a mutual acquaintance. Helmut Ploderer proved to be what they had been looking for all along. A tight and solid drummer. The Splints were better than ever and began playing out again soon after.
They found that their shows became much more vibrant and energetic- while gaining fans all the way.

It was around this time that the band called Clint from Lightning Rock Records .
On January 25, 2007, The Splints signed to the label. One month later, they headed into legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee and in 6 hours recorded the material for their 1st record.

Going along with the bands luck with drummers, in April of 2007, as a result of family and financial obligations, Helmut decided to exit the band. He left on good terms and The Splints wish him the best.

Enter Justin Birmann. Lynn actually met Justin at the very first show with Helmut in the lineup.
Justin approached Lynn after the set and expressed interest in playing with the band. However, Helmut had just joined...but they exchanged phone numbers anyway because they hit it off so well.
A day or so later LD broke his phone losing Justin's number.
About six months later the band managed to find Mr.Birmann on the Internet. They contacted him, asked if he was still down with The Splints, he said yes.

After a string of successful shows, the release of their debut CD - along with it a huge CD release party, filming an amazing award winning music video and with a loyal and concrete fan base in Memphis, The Splints found themselves back in their old hometown, Washington DC.

Again, the band were in search of a drummer.

After only a few months they met up with Robert Cooper who was on his way out of his current band at the time. One jam session was all it took. Everything clicked. Everything went exactly the way LD and Nikki hoped it would. They had found, once again, the solid drummer the bands music demands.

Look for shows in the VA/DC/MD area. And watch for tour dates to see when The Splints will be hitting your town.
